Blethering

Hello, I'm Peter.

I'm 20 and from Newcastle, Portsmouth and where ever else I happen to be sent.

My passions are Middle Eastern Politics, Philosophy, Science, Literature and being optimistic :)

I love my crazy adventures whether Per Mare, Per Terram (By sea, by land) so I will use this to post updates and tales from my travels and, of course, random bits and bobs :)

The controversial book challenge.

As a little challenge for myself, I have decided to try and read as many of the worlds most controversial books possible. I realised when writing an essay on the politicalisation of Islam that Salman Rushdie’s book, The Satanic Verses, kept springing up. It then struck me that I had never read the book and I became curious as to why it was so controversial for Muslims all over the world, with several countries banning the book! So I now have a copy of The Satanic Verses and will read it to see what all the fuss was about.

I think I need to come up with a list of other controversial books to read.

From a hole in the ground to a new laptop

Over the past two weeks I have been sleeping in a 6ft by 3ft hole in the ground on Dartmoor for to nights and then been chased across the moor for a couple days of after. Then that was followed by excessive exams and formal presentations… all of that just to specialise in my branch at work.

To top off a lovely two weeks my laptop died on me when I got back! However this does mean I now have a lovely new shiny one which actually works at a normal speed :)

HOT HOT HOT!

Wow! If this temperature stays all month i’ll have melted away! My phone tells me today it reached 26C in Portsmouth today! It is OCTOBER WTF! On the plus side, it has meant we have had a few barbecues sitting on the common with a couple of ciders looking over the Solent to the Isle of Wight :)

Blatantly how my house will look now!

The fitness regime has started!

Me and my friend Tim have decided we need kick our habits of being typical lazy students be become a couple of ‘fitness freaks’. Our aim is to, by Christmas, be able to do 5km in under 25 minutes. We will run twice a week to begin with and increase later on. We did our first run last night to see what level we’re at and it was a better success than we thought! Managed 5.3km in 36 minutes without having to stop and walk!

On top of this I’m doing weights (not to the point that I look like a tank on steroids) just to aid in the weight loss. So far so good.

Must keep reminding myself that pain is merely weakness leaving the body… if that is the case then I’m the weakest person ever, trust me!

Absinth absinth everywhere and not a drop of water to be seen!

Drinking games that involve absinth are 100% lethal. I would rather have been downing straight vodka. It was a good night out though and who knew that I have an amazing skill for drinking game I learnt last night called ‘flip cup’.

Enrollment Day!!!

Just about to go off and enroll for 3rd year! It should be interesting as no one has been told what we need to bring along and none of us have a clue what we meant to be doing after! Oh well time to enroll, get my student loan and reduce Lady Overdraft, she is such a cruel mistress!
